Complete Eyecare is More than Just a Vision Exam

Your eye examination consists of various procedures to evaluate the health of your eyes and determine the prescription lenses needed for your best possible vision. Our doctors make it an interesting and totally comfortable experience.

We want you to know that our office will refer any patient to the appropriate specialist if we detect or suspect any problems not treated by us.

Eye Health

We use several instruments and procedures to evaluate the health of your eyes. With the medical microscope (slit lamp biomicroscope), Dr. Nielson can actually see inside your eye to check for cataracts, retinal problems and evidence of systemic diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure.

A pressure test for glaucoma is done by the doctor with the tonometer. You will be completely comfortable during this test as no puff of air will be used.

Lens Prescriptions

The refraction is a series of lens tests to determine the proper prescription for glasses or contact lenses. Your input will aid us finding the best prescription for your visual needs. Your special needs and preferences will be taken into consideration before the final correction is determined. We strive for the utmost in accuracy and precision.

Eyeglasses

As a part of our eyeglass service, we offer a complete selection of high quality eyewear. Our professional staff is trained to help you select frames that look good, fit properly, and are compatible with your lens prescription. We will explain to you which lens options will optimize your vision for your lifestyle and hobbies. We want you to have glasses you are proud of and enjoy wearing.

Contact Lenses

Contact lenses are available in prescriptions for nearsighted, farsightedness, astigmatism, most bifocal corrections, and to change your eye color. We provide complete professional care from the initial contact lens examination to follow-up visits after you receive your lenses. As a prospective patient, you will be carefully evaluated to determine if you are a good candidate before fitting.

Our doctors keep abreast of the latest contact lens technology and materials available. We are committed to fitting you with the healthiest lens options available that suit your visual needs.

When Should You Have Your Next Eye Examination?

Many people equate the need for an eye exam with replacing their eyeglasses. While it’s certainly important to see well, undesirable changes in your eyes can occur which do not adversely affect vision in their early stages. Unlike the rest of your body, your eyes rarely hurt and you may not have any symptoms when something is wrong. Do not rely on changes in your vision or broken glasses to remind you of your next eye exam. Follow the advice of experts; have your eyes examined on a regular basis.

Once you become a patient of our practice, we will do the job of reminding you by email, postcard and or phone call when you are due for your doctor recommended visit.
